The Koinonia Foundation invites the public to help neighbors in crisis by participating, sponsoring or donating to its second Pace for Grace 5K Race.

Koinonia is a nondenominational Christian 501(c)(3) that provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that address human needs not adequately funded, as well as one-time emergency benevolent assistance to individuals and families in need in Wake Forest, Rolesville and Youngsville. In June, Koinonia gave $22,000 in grants to eight local charitable organizations.

Runners and walkers of all ages can support Koinonia by participating in its virtual 5K on or before the weekend of Nov. 12-14, 2021, and sponsors and donors can contribute before Nov. 14.

“As a virtual event, our Pace for Grace 5K Race gives participants flexibility in choosing how they wish to experience the event, and when and how they want to run or walk it,” said Holden McLemore, Koinonia Foundation Board member and race coordinator. “However, you don’t have to be a runner or walker to participate. We need donors and sponsors to help fulfil the local needs of nonprofits and our neighbors in need.”

Runners and walkers can register online at www.koinoniawf.org/race, download the mobile race app, then complete 3.1 miles on their own route and pace before Sunday, Nov. 14.

The race app will track each person’s route on a map along with time, distance and pace. It notifies participants when they’ve completed 3.1 miles and prompts them to upload their time onto the online results page, print a finisher’s certificate and add a selfie to appear next to their results.

A Facebook Live post-race celebration at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, will highlight race participants, sponsors and donors.

The race registration fee is $30, with an option to purchase a commemorative race t-shirt for $20. T-shirts will be available for pickup on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Perry & Brandt, Attorneys at Law, 417 S. Main St., in Wake Forest.

Individuals and businesses can support the Koinonia Foundation with a donation and a Compassion- ($500) or Kindness-level ($250) sponsorship at www.koinoniawf.org/race.

The fall virtual race replaces the nonprofit’s annual Pumpkin Patch fundraiser, where it sold pumpkins, fall decor and other seasonal items
